Online Training Session with Uchu Tomita

July 18th, 2020, we held a Americas Para Swimming Online Training Session, aiming to conduct a dryland training that also can do at home; motivate athletes; and interaction between participants. As a facilitator we had a kind collaboration of the Japanese active Para swimmer, Uchu Tomita ,class S11 (visual impairment), silver medalist of 400 m Free and 100 m Butterfly at the London 2019 World Para Swimming Championship, and current World Record holder of 800m Free.

He started the session with mobility flow and then a series of body weight training, such as core, legs, arms exercises.All exercises also possible to vary with equipment. Uchu stressed that breathing during exercise and the sequence is very important, because with this can stretch and activate the deepest part of the muscles. The practice session lasted about an hour and Uchu says that he does a training like this before entering the water.​

The 8 swimmers and 8 coaches from Aruba, Barbados, Grenada, Honduras, Paraguay, St Vincent and Uruguay participated in the session.

We also had the collaboration of the special guests, the Paralympic and World Champion swimmers Keiichi Kimura and Takayuki Suzuki, and the team doctor Nayuta Saito.
